A part of today’s Romania was called Moldova (Moldavia) in the past. This region today includes the counties (Romanian: Judetul) of Iasi, Neamt, Botosani, Vrancea and Bacau. The region is located in the northeast of Romania, bordering Moldova to the east. To the west of this beautiful region lie the Transylvanian Carpathians. Sometimes the territory of Bukovina is also assigned to the Romanian part of Moldova. On Ro-Travel Bukovina is independent, as this region deserves special attention. Moldova (Moldavia region) is a recommended destination and a culturally rich as well as natural region of Romania that will inspire you.

Moldova part of Romania

Moldova unfortunately still receives far too little attention. This region of Romania has so much to offer. In the countryside, it sometimes seems as if time has stood still. In the cities, however, life pulsates. Also one of the most beautiful roads of Romania, the DN12C leads partly through this region. From the village of Bicaz-Chei through the Bicaz Gorge (Cheile Bicazului) to the red lake in Transylvania you will get fantastic impressions. Among the sights you should see are the Moldavian Monasteries, the Palace of Culture in Iasi and the Palatul Cuza de la Ruginoasa near Iasi. In the city of Iasi itself you will find over 100 churches, the most famous of which is probably the Trei Ierarahi Church. Moldovia is also a wine-growing region and invites you to spend time in nature.

Moldova is a paradise for nature lovers, who will find numerous hiking trails here. I was also immediately fascinated by the numerous sights. Among the most famous attractions are certainly the Moldova monasteries. Iasi is the cultural capital of the Moldova region and at the same time a good starting point to explore the region. The ornately painted monasteries with their spectacular frescoes are a must-see for any traveler. You should also see the Neamt Castle in the town of Piatra Neamt, where you should also take the cable car up the mountain to enjoy the beautiful view. You can experience nature for example in the Natural Park Vanatori Neamt, Parcul National Ceahlau or around the lake Bicaz.
