You should definitely take a look at the Transfagarasan pass road (rom.: Drumul Transfăgărășan DN7C) , which you surely already know, but you were not aware that it is located in Romania. In many commercials of cars, they drive over the beautiful pass road. This leads from the Arges Valley in Muntenia over the Transylvanian Alps to Oberkerz in Transylvania. However, the road is open only a few months a year. It is one of the most beautiful roads in the world and was highlighted by the Top Gear team.

Transfagarasan Road

The Transfagarasan pass road (German: Transfogarascher Hochstraße) connects southern Muntenia with northern Transilvania. However, the road is open only a few months a year. Along the road you will find some accommodations, the most beautiful location in my opinion is at Balea Lac, the beautiful mountain lake on the northern side. Also worth seeing is Vidraru Lake on the southern side. Transfagarasan is simply a dream road, which is snow covered in winter and not passable.

On this magnificent mountain road (National Road DN 7C) is also the Poenari Castle (Cetatea Poenari) in Arefu, here Vlad Tepes, who is said to have been the inspiration for the character Dracula, actually lived. And everyone who comes to Romania wants to have seen where Dracula lived, right? On the northern side you can also use the cable car to get to the mountain lake Balea Lac. A hiking trail leads to the Balea waterfall.
