The Turda Salt Mine (Salina Turda) is one of Romania’s must-see attractions. Here you can learn about the history of the mine and the technology used, but you can also ride a Ferris wheel at a depth of over 100 metres. A lift takes you down into the depths, where unique things await you. Among other things, there is a lake with an island in the middle, where the world’s only underground Ferris wheel is located. You can also play billiards or bowling here. The different areas in this man-made salt mine will impress you. Even the descent with the panoramic lift is unique in the world.
The individual areas of the Turda Salt Mine include:
Franz Josef Gallery was a former transport tunnel that you can visit and walk through today. The Mina Rudolf area lies at a depth of 120 metres. Here you will find the aforementioned Ferris wheel, but also an amphitheatre. The Theresa Mine is even deeper than Mina Rudolf and is the oldest part of the mine. Joseph Mine is also called the Echo Room, shout something and the echo will sound up to 20 times. In the Crivac Chamber you can see historic technology used to mine salt. Registry Chamber is also impressive as you can see the stairs to the other chambers. The Extraction Shaft Chamber area also shows some of the technology used in salt mining and transportation. In the Gisela Mine area you can relax and breathe in the salty air, which is said to have healing properties.
Turda Salt Mine Experience
Families with children as well as adults can have fun here, with Ferris wheel, boat tours, bowling, billiards, amphitheatre.
The spa & wellness area with heated pool, Jacuzzi pools, sauna and fitness studio is also unique. Furthermore, massages are offered.
