The beautiful city of Oradea (Großwardein) is located in the Crisana region in northwestern Romania, on the border with the Republic of Hungary. Oradea is known, among other things, for its beautiful old town and its numerous historical buildings, which include, for example, the Oradea Fortress (Cetatea Oradea) or the Episcopal Palace (Palatul Episcopal). One of the most beautiful squares in Oradea is the Union Square (Piata Unirii), where beautiful buildings stand. One of the most beautiful views of the city, however, is from the public garden on Ciuperca Hill (Gradina Publica Ciuperca ). Oradea is also known for its thermal springs and has several thermal baths and spas. Only a few kilometers away is also the largest spa town in Romania. Baile Felix was founded in the 18th century and today offers numerous treatments. Moreover, Oradea is an ideal starting point for exploring. From here you can reach, among others, the Apuseni Mountains or cities like Arad, Zalau, Timisoara or Cluj-Napoca.

City of Oradea

Oradea has a rich and eventful history, which is still witnessed by a multitude of cultural sights. You should see the old town of Oradea, where you can find the Oradea Fortress, the Black Tower (Vulturul Negru) and the Union Square (Piata Unirii). You should also visit one of the museums of the city. For example, the Museum of the Crisana Region (Muzeul Tarii Crisurilor), located in the Episcopal Palace (Palatul Episcopal). You should also visit one of the churches such as the Roman Catholic Cathedral (Catedrala Romano-Catolica), the Church with the Moon (Biserica cu Luna) and the Zion Synagogue. A completely different attraction of the city is the Zoo (Grădina Zoologică Oradea) with its numerous animals. And if you are already in this region, you should relax in one of the thermal baths and then try one of the delicious Romanian dishes such as sarmale, tochitura or mici in one of the city’s restaurants.

Oradea is also an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding area. As already mentioned, a trip to the spa town of Baile Felix is recommended. You should also visit one of the caves, such as the Bear Cave (Peștera Urșilor) on the edge of the Apuseni Mountains, about 80 kilometers from Oradea. Only about 15 kilometers away is the Observator Betfia lookout tower, from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Dealul Șomleu National Park. A trip to one of the wineries nearby is also recommended. And if you are already on the road then explore the Apuseni Nature Park with its impressive landscapes, caves and mountain ridges. This natural paradise is only about an hour’s drive from Oradea. The reservoir (Deversorul Vida) could also be interesting for you. Last but not least, I would like to mention the Parcul Natural Cefa.
