The Fagaras Mountains (Muntii Fagaras) belong to the Southern Carpathians in Romania, and are an impressive mountain landscape, whose highest peak is Mount Moldoveanu with an altitude of 2,544 meters. A bit lower lies the beautiful mountain lake Balea Lac at an altitude of 2034 meters. You can hike in the Fagaras Mountains through idyllic forests, over mountain meadows and rugged rocks. The Fagaras Mountains also include the mountain lake Balea Lac and the waterfall Cascada Balea. The Fagaras Mountains are recommended for both day tours or tours of several days.

Photos of Fagaras Mountains

For example, you can hike from Sebesu de Sus to Sambata, the tour being in several daily stages. And although the paths are well marked, a map is recommended. Moreover, not everywhere you can access the Internet with your cell phone. However, the Fagaras Mountains are also recommended for day trips.
And the drive over the Transfagarasan mountain road is magnificent, even if you don’t get out of the car. I recommend, however, to enjoy the magnificent views at the individual viewpoints. Unfortunately, the road was closed on both of my trips and was also snowed in during the winter. The mountains are about 75 kilometers from Sibiu and 130 kilometers from Brasov.
