Parts of the Danube Delta are a biosphere reserve (Rezervatia Biosferei Delta Dunarii ) and unique in Europe. It is a grandiose nature reserve that relies on soft tourism. The delta is a labyrinth of smaller rivers, and larger estuaries of the Danube, as well as sandbanks, reed islands, marshes and an incredible wealth of species of plants but also animals especially birds and fish. Probably the most famous estuary of the Danube in the Romanian estuary delta is the Sulina Channel, which stretches from the city of Tulcea to the old fishing village of Sulina. It is both a natural paradise and the only connection to Sulina. From Tulcea start also the excursion boats to the Doanu Delta, among them are bigger excursion boats as well as motor boats. Canoeing and kayaking tours are also popular, as these excursions allow you to navigate even the smallest channels. Ornithologists, anglers and day tourists are equally enthusiastic about the Danube Delta.

Danube Delta

The city of Tulcea is the gateway to the Danube Delta, from here you can book tours directly or take the regular boats to Crisan or Sulina to start a tour into the nature reserve. The pier in Tulcea is located on the Danube promenade. A tour with smaller motor boats and noisy kayaks is recommended. Hotspots in the Danube Delta are Letea, Sulina and Sfantu Gheorghe. Depending on where you end up, you should also take a bike tour along the Black Sea coast from Sulina to Sfantu Gheorghe. Near Letea there is also one of the last primeval forests in Europe with magnificent trees including oaks. In short, the Danube Delta is one of the last natural paradises in Europe that you should have seen.
