Discover Slatina

The city of Slatina is located in the southwest of Romania, in the historical region of Muntenia, on the Olt River. Today, Slatina is a modern city with numerous cultural attractions as well as recreational opportunities. Among the most important sights are the Old Town (Centrul Vechi), located between the streets Strada Ionașcu, Strada George Poboran, Strada Mihai Eminescu, Strada Dinu Lipatti, Strada Grădiniței, Strada Mihail Kogălniceanu, Strada Ioan Moroșan and Strada Ionașcu. Here you can also find Casa Căsătoriilor and the administration building (Primăria Slatina). From the hill (Dealul Grădişte din Slatina), which is also located here, you have a beautiful view of the city. And also the Museum of Natural History and Archaeology (Muzeul Județean Olt) is located in the historic old town, which you can easily explore on foot.

Also worth seeing is the Cathedral of the Assumption (Catedrala Episcopală Ascension), as well as the numerous churches of the city, including the Church of the Assumption (Biserica Adormirea Maicii Domnului), Trinity Church (Biserica Sfînta Treime), Church of St. Nicholas (Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Coastă) and others. The House of Culture (Casa de cultură a sindicatelor) also hosts numerous events. You can relax or take a break in the various parks of the city. Also worth mentioning is the Padurea Strehareti recreational area. Take a seat in one of the restaurants and enjoy the tasty Romanian food.

You can explore the city of Slatina on your own or take a guided tour. Some tour operators will show you the sights and the history of the city. You should have seen the sights already mentioned above. Interesting are also the monasteries Mănăstirea Strehareți and Clocociov Monastery. You can visit a local market, which offers a variety of fresh products, such as fruits, vegetables and meat. Slatina is also a good starting point to explore the surrounding area. About an hour’s drive from Slatina is the National Park Cozia, where you can hike, fish or even watch animals. Almost on the doorstep is the river Olt, where you can also fish or enjoy a walk along its banks. About 120 kilometers away is one of the most beautiful mountain passes in Europe, the Transfăgărășan. And also some wineries are located in the area, especially famous is the winery Crama Cepari. For longer stays there is a choice of accommodation.
