The city of Bistrita (Bistritz) is located in the Transylvania region and is particularly worth seeing due to its numerous sights and its beautiful old town. The Old Town (Centrul Istoric) is a place where you can see numerous historical buildings. Take your time and enjoy the special atmosphere of the beautiful city. One of the most beautiful places in the city is the pedestrian zone (Strada Liviu Rebreanu). It starts not far from the Church of Our Lady (Biserică a Maicii Domnului) and ends at Piata Centrala, where you can also find the Evangelical Church (Biserica Evanghelică) and an information center. Furthermore, here you can find a collection of buildings (Șirul Sugălete) that are connected to each other and form a kind of gallery with vaults on their front side. Interesting is also the museum complex of ethnography, art, natural sciences, geology, archeology (Complexul Muzeal Bistrita-Nasaud). However, from the medieval city fortifications (Cetatea Bistriței) only the customs tower (Turnul Dogarilor) and a part of the southern and eastern city walls are still visible. From there you can also easily walk to the parks (Parcul Municipal Regele Mihai I) and (Parcul Central Bistrița), as well as to the cultural center, which is located in a building worth seeing. In the Schuller Forest, located on the other side of the Old Town, there are also paths with benches, a skateboarding and inline skating track, playgrounds for children and more. You should also stop at one of the city’s restaurants. Maybe on Strada Liviu Rebreanu, where there are numerous cafes and restaurants.
However, the town of Bistrita is not only particularly worth seeing, but also offers numerous recreational opportunities such as hiking, cycling, fishing and in winter skiing. Due to its location on the river Bistrita, the eponymous city on the river also offers beautiful places for walks or picnics. There are also numerous bridges over the river. In this context, one of the oldest bridges in Romania, if not Europe, should be mentioned. Only 35 kilometers away from the city, the ancient wooden bridge , the Bridge of Love (Podul iubirii ) or also called the Covered Bridge (Podul Acoperit din Coşbuc), crosses the Salauta River. Other attractions in the surroundings of Bistrita are the beautiful lake (Lacul Colibita), which is 40 kilometers away and the ruins of the castle (Ruinele Cetății Rodnei), which is about 65 kilometers away. You can find pure nature in the National Park (Parcul Munţii Rodnei) or in the Suhard Mountains (Munții Suhard). You can ski, among others, in the ski resort (Resort Ski Wonderland), which is located 10 kilometers away from Bistrita. We would also like to mention the Parcul Național Călimani, which is located about 70 kilometers away.
