The city of Targu Mures (Neumarkt am Mieresch) is located in the historical region of Transylvania (Transilvania) in the center of Romania and very worth seeing. In addition to numerous sights, it also offers a variety of recreational opportunities and an interesting program of events. A good starting point to explore Targu Mures on foot is the Annunciation Cathedral (Catedrala Buna Vestire) at Piata Victoriei). From there you will reach the Small Cathedral (Catedrala Mica “Buna Vestire”), in front of which there is also the statue (Statuia lui Emil Dandea). Continuing along Piața Victoriei Street, you will reach the Municipal Administration Building (Primăria Municipiului Târgu Mureș) and the beautiful Old Town Hall (Prefectura județului Mureș), in front of which stands the statue of the lactating she-wolf (Monumentul Latinității).

Rose Square (Piața Trandafirilor) begins at the magnificent Palace of Culture (Palatul Culturii). The complex of buildings of the Palace also houses the Museum of Art (Muzeul de Artă), the Philharmonic Hall (Filarmonica de Stat) and a library (Biblioteca Județeană Mureș). The street (Piața Trandafirilor) to the Catedrala Înălțarea Domnului (Cathedral of the Assumption) is divided by a green area, where there are also numerous statues. Other sights of the city include the castle (Cetatea Târgu Mureș) with its tower (Bastionul porții) and the Reformed Church (Biserica Reformată din Cetate). Moreover, during the summer, events are held on the grounds of the medieval castle. The Castle Boulevard (Bulevardul Cetăţii), considered by many to be one of the most romantic streets in Europe, is also located at the castle. Decide for yourself. You should also check out the staircase (Scările Rakoczi), located on the boulevard. Not far from the castle is also the Sinagogue (Sinagoga Status Quo Ante). In addition to the churches already mentioned, the wooden church (Biserica de lemn “Sfântul Arhanghel Mihail”) and the Reformed small church (Biserica Reformată Mică) should be mentioned. Explore the city best on foot and take your time. Everywhere in the city there are interesting houses and cafes and restaurants where you should stop to eat a typical Romanian food.

Targu Mures is a city worth seeing. You have a beautiful view of the city, for example, from the Cornești Plateau, where there are also walking paths, jogging tracks, and a children’s playground. The zoo is also in the immediate vicinity. A completely different recreational area is the Leisure Park (Complexul Weekend), which is located on the Mureş River and offers several swimming pools and sports areas.

Targu Mures is not only worth seeing, but also a good starting point to explore the sights, attractions and natural beauties of the surrounding area. For example, the salt mine (Salina Praid) is about 60 kilometers away. If you are interested in pottery or wood carving, you should go to Corund. Also worth seeing is the fortified church of Biertan (Biserica Fortificată din Biertan), about 70 kilometers away. We also recommend a trip to the beautiful town of Sighisoara, which is about 55 kilometers away.

You can experience pure nature in the national parks (Parcul Național Călimani) and (Parcul National Apuseni), which are both about 150 kilometers away from Targu Mures and offer numerous hiking trails.
