Romania and especially Transylvania is a winter paradise for skiers or snowboarders, because the ski resorts in Romania have mostly modern infrastructure and ski slopes with different levels of difficulty. The infrastructure includes modern drag lifts and fast gondola lifts as well as restaurants, hotels and other recreational facilities. Those who want to learn to ski can also do so in Romania. In most ski resorts there are ski schools and private ski instructors.

The ski season in Romania, like everywhere in the world, depends on the weather. Therefore, in many places there are snow cannons. Nevertheless, not all slopes are available to skiers or snowboarders at all times. Some slopes, such as in Poiana Brasov or Sinaia, are particularly snow-sure. It is said that the snow season in Romania starts in mid-December and ends in mid-April. The best snow in Romania is usually from mid-January to mid-March. There are numerous ski resorts in Romania, the oldest and probably the most famous ski resort is Poiana Brasov near the city of Brasov, located in the Postavarul Mountains.

Poiana Brasov

Poiana Brasov is the oldest and probably the most famous ski resort in Transilvania and all of Romania. It offers various slopes with different levels of difficulty. The ski slopes are located at an altitude of 941 to 1783 meters and have a total length of about 14 kilometers. Almost half of the ski slopes are classified as difficult and the other half fall into the easy and medium categories. Several lifts and a cable car will take you to the slopes. The ski resort is located near the city of Brasov.

Sinaia

Sinaia Ski Resort is located in Bucegi National Park in Transilvania and offers various slopes with different levels of difficulty on a total length of about 17 kilometers. The ski slopes are located at an altitude of 1006 to 2090 meters. More than half of the ski slopes are classified in the medium category and about 3 kilometers fall into the difficult category. Several lifts and a cable car will take you to the slopes. The ski resort is located near the city of Sinaia.

Kalinderu Busteni

Kalinderu Busteni ski resort is located in Prahova County and offers only a few lifts. The ski slopes are located at an altitude of 1000 to 1280 meters and have a total length of just over 3 kilometers. About 90 percent of the ski slopes are classified as medium. The ski resort is located near the town of Busteni and offers a fantastic view of the Bucegi Mountains.

Predeal

The ski resort Predeal is located in the town of the same name and offers only a few lifts. The ski slopes are located at an altitude of 1040 to 1451 meters and have a total length of just over 7 kilometers. More than half of the ski slopes are classified as medium and about 1 kilometer slope is very difficult. The ski resort is located near the town of Predeal.

Straja

The ski resort Straja offers several lifts and various slopes with different levels of difficulty at an altitude of 1130 to 1868 meters and have a total length of almost 20 kilometers. Almost 70 percent of the ski slopes are classified as medium and about 2 kilometers slope are very difficult. The ski resort is located near the town of Petrosani.

Sureanu

Sureanu ski resort offers 3 lifts and various slopes with different levels of difficulty at an altitude of 1650 to 2010 meters and have a total length of about 12 kilometers. Almost 70 percent of the ski slopes are classified as medium and about 2 kilometers-piste are very difficult. The ski resort is located in the district of Hunedora.

Balea Lac

Balea Lac ski resort is located in the Fagaras Mountains and offers natural slopes suitable for advanced skiers and snowboarders. The slopes are difficult, that should be clear to anyone who sets out there. You can get to the top by telecabina or helicopter.

Arena Platos ski resort is located not far from the city of Sibiu and offers ski slopes with a length of almost 3 kilometers at an altitude of 1300 to 1442 meters. The ski slopes are classified as easy. In summer you can also find bike trails.
