Open Air Museum Astra Sibiu

The open-air museum Astra (“Muzeul Civilizatiei Populare Traditionale ASTRA”) is located just outside the city of Sibiu and is one of the city’s must-see attractions. On more than 90 hectares, exhibits on Romanian rural life and farming technology from the past are displayed here. Numerous original buildings such as windmills, farms, country houses and also a chapel can be found here. Furthermore, historical furnishings, tools, machines and things of everyday use are shown.

The open-air museum is embedded in a beautiful landscape (nature reserve ) with numerous trees and also a lake. This makes the visit to the museum an informative and beautiful excursion. In the park there are vending machines and restaurants where you can taste traditional Romanian food. You can also go boating on the lake and the open-air stage hosts events on certain dates. And for children there is a playground.
