The town of Drobeta Turnu Severin is located in southwestern Romania, in the historical region of Oltenia. The city is a popular tourist destination and offers a variety of attractions, including the Historic Water Tower (Castelul de Apă), located at the end of Promenada Crișan, which is a beautiful street to stroll and linger. Furthermore, the Palace of Culture (Palatul Culturii Teodor Costescu) is worth seeing, as well as the churches of the city. For example, the Church of the Resurrection (Catedrala Episcopală Învierea Domnului și Sf. M. Mc. Gheorghe), the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen (Biserica Sfinții Împărați Constantin și Elena) and the Maioreasa Church (Biserica Maioreasa). Much older are the former Roman fortress (Castrul Roman Drobeta), the Roman Bridge (Podul lui Traian), which was the first bridge over the Danube, of which, however, only remains can be seen. Also interesting are the Historical Castle Complex (Cetatea Medievală a Severinului) and the Museum of the Iron Gate Region (Muzeul Regiunii Porților de Fier). You can take a break in the city’s parks. The park (Pădurea Crihala) and the park (Parcul Tudor Vladimirescu) are popular. As everywhere in Romania, you should stop at one of the restaurants, such as on the Promenada Crișan or at the port, which, however, is not a tourist attraction.
Drobeta-Turnu Severin is worth seeing and at the same time a good starting point to discover the sights and natural beauties of the surroundings. You should experience a boat trip on the Danube (Plimbări cu barca pe Dunăre) offered by private operators. For example, from Orsova si Drobeta Turnu Severin. A well-known vendor is (https://www.cazaneledunarii.com/) . A must see is also the statue of Decebalus (Chipul lui Decebal), which is 50 kilometers away. There you can also take a boat trip. Hiking, biking and nature can be enjoyed in the numerous nature parks in the region. The Parcul Național Domogled-Valea Cernei is about 50 kilometers away and the Parcul Naţional Cheile Nerei – Beușnița 100 kilometers and the Parcul Național Semenic – Cheile Carașului 150 kilometers. To the nearest town Targu Jiu it is 80 kilometers and to Craiova about 120 kilometers. Finally, I should mention the Iron Gate (Muzeul Hidrocentralei Porțile de Fier I), which is so famous that almost everyone who travels to Romania knows it.
